The Torres Strait Islands

WHETHER YOU ARE HERE ON BUSINESS OR FOR PLEASURE YOU’RE SURE TO FALL IN LOVE WITH THE CULTURAL HERITAGE AND RELAXED WAY OF LIFE.

Horn Island is steeped in history. During World War II a major allied airbase was constructed on the Island and was attacked several times by Japanese planes. There are many reminders of this part of history throughout the Island and tours can be arranged.

A visit to the Horn Island Heritage Museum, which is conveniently located just around the corner, is highly recommended. Torres Strait Heritage offers WWII tours of Horn Island.

Jump on the ferry and take a day trip across to Thursday Island, affectionately known by most as TI.  Take a tour, a taxi or a leisurely walk and check out Green Fort Hill – an amazing place immersed in war history and some stunning views of the Torres Strait.

Friday Island Pearl Farm – truly one of those places you should not miss when in the Torres Strait.  Tours can be arranged.

If you’re after a spot of fishing, Horn Island Wharf is the place to be and is popular with local fisherman.  Also a great place to catch a great sunset…..or sunrise for those early risers.
