WWII TOURS OF HORN ISLAND

Horn Island is steeped in history.  During World War II a major allied airbase was constructed on the Island and was attacked several times by Japanese planes.  There are many reminders of this part of history throughout the Island and tours can be arranged.

A visit to the Horn Island Heritage Museum, which is conveniently located just around the corner, is highly recommended. Torres Strait Heritage offers WWII tours of Horn Island.

GREEN FORT HILL, THURSDAY ISLAND

Jump on the ferry and take a day trip across to Thursday Island, affectionately known
by most as TI. Take a tour, a taxi or a leisurely walk and check out Green Fort Hill – an
amazing place immersed in war history and some stunning views of the Torres Strait.

FRIDAY ISLAND PEARL FARM

Friday Island Pearl Farm – truly one of those places you should not miss when in the Torres Strait.  Friday Island is in the southernmost group of the Torres Strait Islands. The farm is called Kazu Pearls, named after the Japanese owner.

Tours  of the working pearl farm can be arranged.

HORN ISLAND WHARF

If you’re after a spot of fishing, Horn Island Wharf is the place to be and is popular with local fisherman.  Also a great place to catch a great sunset…..or sunrise for those early risers.
